Our History

The Dawnay Arms was built in 1779, and is situated in the picturesque village of Newton on Ouse,at the gates to Beningbrough Hall. It sits on the main road through the village, with a large garden to the rear, which stretches down to our moorings on the river Ouse.

Martel and Kerry Smith both come from Scarborough, though in recent years have been working in Leeds. They bought the pub at auction in May 2007, after a long search for the perfect pub. The Dawnay Arms had been closed for 18 months, and was in need of a lot of TLC, but the potential was still obvious. With invaluable help from family and friends, the pub was refurbished, and reopened in September 2007.

We have mooring space for customers arriving by boat, and you are welcome to stay overnight on the moorings if you are dining at the pub. For any further information on arriving by boat, please contact us on 01347 848345.
